Person County Schools is excited to announce our first annual Job Shadow Day, but we need your support!
On Friday, February 27, 2026, students in grades 7–12 will have the opportunity to participate in Job Shadow Day, an experience designed to give students first-hand exposure to the workplace while helping them explore future career possibilities. This opportunity allows students to make meaningful connections between what they learn in school and real-world careers.
Job Shadow Day aims to help students:
Gain first-hand workplace experience
Explore career interests and passions
Expand professional networks
Build strong industry pipelines
Develop a new vision for their future through real-world exposure
All middle and high school students are encouraged to participate! Your student will go to work with someone in a career that they’re interested in for the day. They’ll get a free day out of school to see what that career is all about. All they need to do it:
Reach out to a family member or family friend - asking if they can go to work with them on 2/27/26.
Complete the Job Shadow Day Parent/Student Agreement.
Turn in the completed agreement to their school counselor by Fri., 2/20/26.
Attend the job shadow experience - taking page 2 of the agreement with them
Submit the lower portion of page 2 - including the job shadow host’s signature OR submit a picture of the student at the shadow site - to have their absence coded as an Excused Educational Opportunity by 5/13/26.

Person County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students tomorrow, Friday, February 6th. This will allow our bus drivers to run their routes in daylight in case there are some icy patches on secondary roads due to the overnight freezing temperatures. Staff will report at their regular times. We are looking forward to having students back in buildings.

This delay will allow our staff to reassess road conditions early in the morning following any snowfall forecasted this evening. Safety remains our top priority, and the extra time will help us ensure that buses can safely travel their routes. The delayed start will also give our bus drivers the opportunity to identify and navigate any residual snow or icy patches before transporting students.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we take the necessary steps to keep all students and staff safe.
Despite some sun and warmer temperatures today, many secondary roads are still covered in ice and snow. Person County Schools will be closed for students tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4th. Staff will operate on an optional teacher workday with a 2-hour delay.
Free hot lunches will be available for students between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm at Southern Middle School.

School buildings will open at 10:00 a.m. for staff who choose to report. There will be no classes for students.
To support our families, free take-out lunch will be available for students at Southern Middle School from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we navigate these weather-related conditions. Please stay safe and warm.

Students and staff will not report to school buildings. Teachers have provided assignments and materials for students to complete independently. These activities are designed so that internet access is not required and students should use the materials already sent home or previously shared by their teacher.
Students should complete their assigned work according to teacher directions and return it as instructed when school resumes.
