Parents, we need your help to keep our morning drop-off running smoothly and safely.
We have noticed many cars using the circle drive instead of the entrance by the tree line during our busiest arrival window. During our busiest time, this is creating traffic backups in both directions and, at times, even blocking buses from entering the circle drive.
To alleviate any confusion and to ensure a safe and efficient arrival:
From 7:55–8:20 AM, all vehicles must use the entrance on the far side of the parking lot, near the tree line and circle around the back row of the parking lot.
Only school buses may use the circle drive during this time.
Please refer to the two photos below for guidance—one shows the correct procedure when buses are in front of the school, and the other shows what to do when buses are not in front of the school.

🚗🚌 Reminder to All Parents about Dismissal Changes 🚌🚗
Parents, when you need to change your child’s afternoon transportation/dismissal procedures, please remember you must call the school office. 📞 336-364-2204
Why can’t we accept Dojo or email messages for transportation changes?
👉 Teachers are very busy with students throughout the day or may even be absent , so Dojo and email messages may go unread or place responsibility on a staff member who isn’t even at school that day.
Why can’t we just do what the students say you told them to do?
👉 Students aren’t always reliable — they can get confused, or sometimes try to change plans to be with friends.
When you call the office, our team makes sure the message goes to everyone who needs to know—teachers, bus drivers, and any other staff—so your child gets home safely. 💚
Thanks for helping us keep dismissal safe and smooth!

Please join us for the next Parenting with Eyes Wide Open Session on Tuesday, October 7th at 6:00 pm in the Media Center at Person High School. The topic will be The Online World Unplugged: What Every Parent Needs to Know.

H-E-L-L-O students and parents! This week, our school community is participating in Start With Hello! During morning meetings this week, our teachers and students will talk about how we can create a safer and healthier school and build a culture of looking out for one another. It all starts with a “hello”!

🌟 Attendance Matters! 🌟
Your child’s attendance is vital to their success! Please make it a priority for your child to arrive on time and stay all day, every day. ⏰📚
We know that illness and appointments happen from time to time, but these should be the exception—not the routine. Consistent attendance helps your child learn, grow, and thrive! 💡✨
Together, let’s make every minute count! 💙🐾

As shared in the Paw Print Newsletter earlier this week, My Life Matters After-School Club begins this afternoon. Please note that students must be pre-registered in order to attend. The registration link can be found in this past weekend’s Paw Print Newsletter, found in your text messages, email, Dojo and Facebook news feeds.
The club will meet every Thursday until 5:15 PM. For dismissal, please follow our regular car rider traffic pattern. We ask that you remain in your vehicle and use the car line rather than parking and walking up to pick up your child.
If your child is registered, they will automatically be sent to My Life Matters each Thursday. If you need to make a change to their dismissal plans, please call the office. For student safety, we cannot accept a student’s word that a parent said they would not be staying; communication must come directly from a parent/guardian.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep all students safe!

✨ **The Night Before the First Day of School** ✨
“’Twas the night before the first day of school, and all through the town,
Children were snuggled with their blankets pulled down.
Backpacks were waiting, lined up by the door,
With pencils and crayons and supplies galore.
The lunchboxes packed all tidy and neat,
With sandwiches, apples, and little sweet treats.
Shoes by the bed, and clothes laid out too,
All ready for mornings of learning brand new.
The children lay dreaming of classrooms so bright,
Of teachers and stories and friends to delight.
They pictured the playground, the laughter, the cheer,
The joy of a brand-new, exciting school year.
And as the moon whispered, so gentle, so light,
‘Rest well, little learners, tomorrow’s in sight.’
The sun will rise early, the school bell will ring,
And with it, the promise of wonders to bring.
So close your eyes tightly, sleep sound and sleep deep,
For schooltime adventures await after sleep.
We can’t wait to greet you, to cheer and to say,
‘Welcome back, Oak Lane Cougars—tomorrow’s the day!’”
Some friendly reminders:
Arrival: 7:55 - 8:20
Tardy: 8:25
Dismissal: 2:55

Let’s get those registrations in! 🚌💙
Have a wonderful week!

📢 Important Update from Oak Lane 📢
In case you missed our earlier posts, our summer staff has been relocated due to ongoing Summer Renovation Projects at Oak Lane. 🛠️
We recently learned that the contracted work requires disconnecting our phone system, and unfortunately, we do not have an estimated completion date at this time.
📌 Need Help with Registration (Infinite Campus Parent Portal)?
Email our Data Manager, Mrs. Salvitti, at 📧 salvittir@person.k12.nc.us or message her on ClassDojo. (Trust us—she’s your go-to! Mrs. Bowling still breaks a sweat just logging in. 😅)
📌 Have other questions?
Contact Mrs. Bowling at 📧 bowlingh@person.k12.nc.us or send a Dojo message.
(Just don’t ask her how to reset your Infinite Campus password... she’s better at other things; Mrs. Salvitti is the Infinite Campus/Registration Pro! 😉)
Thank you for your patience and understanding! 🙏We can’t wait to return and welcome you into our freshly updated office space soon! 🐾✨

Attention all current PCS Families: Returning student registration for the 2025-2026 school year is now OPEN!
Please take a few moments to complete registration to ensure a smooth transition into the new school year.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you would like to have transportation for the first day of school, registration must be completed by July 25th.

Dear Oak Lane Families,
We are so excited for our upcoming Fun Day celebration! This special event is a chance for students to celebrate the end of a wonderful school year with fun, laughter, and lasting memories.
As we prepare for the day, please take note of the following important reminders to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely:
🔹 Parents are not permitted to use gym equipment.
🔹 No siblings (younger or older) are allowed to attend.
🔹 All students must ride the bus to and from school.
🔹 If you plan to check your child out early, you must come to the school to do so.
🔹 Shoes must be removed before entering the play area. Please make sure your child wears shoes they can fasten and unfasten independently to help with transitions throughout the day.
🔹Don't forget to wear your class t-shirt!
A HUGE thank you to Ashley Rogers for generously allowing us to use her gym space! Because of her kindness, we are able to relocate Fun Day and ensure our students have a fantastic and memorable celebration. We also want to give a special shoutout to Mrs. Goodwin, third grade teacher, for organizing the arrangements and making this day possible!
👉 Reminder: All students must have a signed electronic permission slip or return a signed paper form by tomorrow morning in order to participate.
Permission slip linked here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScChZ5W9J_mxub0az9wiE3fFNrFjBGft3O533q0B3Iwr3ikUQ/viewform
Thank you for helping us make Fun Day a safe and joyful experience for all!
Warmly,
Heather Bowling
Principal
