Good evening Oak Lane Families,

The countdown is on! We know many of you have been eagerly awaiting one of the most exciting milestones of the new school year—teacher assignments! We are thrilled to welcome our Cougar families back and can't wait to begin another year of learning, growth, and unforgettable memories together.

Student schedules and teacher assignments for students in Grades 1–5 will be released late tomorrow afternoon in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

Please note:

Returning Student Registration must be completed before you will be able to view your child's teacher assignment in Infinite Campus.

Parents will not receive an email notification or mailing of teacher assignments, as we have done in previous years. Please log into the Parent Portal to view your child's information.

Kindergarten Families: Kindergarten students will not be assigned to a homeroom until after the staggered entry days. During staggered entry, our teachers will spend time getting to know each student and assessing their strengths and needs. This thoughtful process allows us to create balanced classrooms that provide the best possible learning environment for every child.

Don't forget about Open House on Wednesday, August 12! To make it convenient for families, we are offering two identical sessions at 1:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Our staff is eager to welcome you back, meet your family, and help you prepare for a successful start to the school year. You'll also have the opportunity to learn about before- and after-school care, meet bus drivers, and receive transportation information.

If you have not yet completed Returning Student Registration, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible to avoid delays in accessing your child's information.

We are so excited to welcome our students back to Oak Lane and begin another incredible year of growing together. Here's to a fantastic 2026–2027 school year where Tiny Acorns Grow into Mighty Oak Trees! 🌳💚

Hello Oak Lane Families!

I hope you all are enjoying your summer! I have two very important reminders!

1. If you need assistance with 26-27 Student Registration, please contact Mrs. Salvitti through Dojo or email: salvittir@person.k12.nc.us. Unfortunately, I do not have training on troubleshooting parent accounts in Infinite Campus, so I would be of no assistance!

2. Our Kindergarten enrollment is unusually low for this time of year! Please reach out to your friends, family, and neighbors and encourage them to go ahead and enroll their child in Kindergarten. Enrollment affects how teachers are assigned, and we need to have that information sooner rather than later to ensure proper planning and a smooth start to the school year!

Thanks so much!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This afternoon, at approximately 2:40 p.m., we were notified by local law enforcement that a nearby resident had reported hearing possible gunshots in our area. As a precaution, we immediately implemented a soft lockdown, which allowed instruction to continue while ensuring that all students and staff remained safely inside the building.

Law enforcement promptly investigated the report and did not find any cause for concern in our area. Officers remained on campus through dismissal to provide an added layer of safety and reassurance.

To avoid causing unnecessary alarm, students were not informed of the reason for the temporary restriction on outdoor activities. Only a few classes were affected, as the situation occurred during their scheduled recess period.

Please know that student and staff safety is always our top priority. At no time was anyone at risk. We are grateful to our community members for reporting something that did not seem safe, and we appreciate the quick and thorough response of our law enforcement partners.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Bowling
