Good evening, Oak Lane families! We wanted to remind you that the PCS Board of Education has decided to delay the start of school for students to Tuesday, August 27, due to maintenance work that needs to be completed at several schools before students arrive. Kindergartners should report on the same day of the week they were originally assigned. For example, if your child was scheduled to start on Tuesday, August 13, they should now begin on Tuesday, August 27, and the same applies for Wednesday and Thursday starts. Kindergarten teachers will reach out to parents on Thursday, August 29, to share teacher assignments and to invite parents and students to a conference on Friday, August 30. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our office at 336-364-2204. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work through this situation.

Good morning Oak Lane families! The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority at Oak Lane. In light of the recent tragedies throughout our nation and in the interest of keeping our staff and students as safe as possible, we continue to take a proactive stance on school safety. This message is to notify you that at approximately 9:30 am today our students and staff practiced a planned lockdown drill. Law Enforcment officers were present to review our processes and procedures and to provide feedback to better prepare our school in the case of a crisis. The goal of our drills throughout the school year is to improve our ability to protect students. These practice drills allow us to evaluate our emergency operation plan and improve our response skills. Our students and staff did a wonderful job practicing today’s lockdown drill. As we continue to keep students safe on our campus, our teachers will continue to adhere to the following practices. Teachers will keep their classroom doors locked. If you need to check your child out early or need to visit their classroom, please enter the main office entrance. All exterior doors will be closed and locked. The staff at Oak Lane is taking every precaution to make sure your child is safe while attending school. We are pleased with the outcome of today’s drill and feel reassured that our safety plans can be implemented effectively. I would like to reiterate that all students and staff are safe, and that today was a practice drill. Please talk with your child, if you deem it appropriate, about the drill. Our goal, while practicing important safety procedures, is to be sure all students feel safe. I also ask that you please reinforce to your child that if they see or hear something they feel is inappropriate, to please share that information with the first adult in which they come in contact. Thanks for your continued support and trust in the Oak Lane staff and our school resource officers. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call us. Sincerely, Heather G. Bowling, Principal
