Northern Middle School leaders were recently recognized for their leadership and commitment to student success during the Golden LEAF Schools Initiative Summer Convening, held in Raleigh and attended by educators, school leaders, and district teams from across North Carolina.

The annual convening provides participants an opportunity to reflect on lessons learned, collaborate with peers, learn from educational experts, and develop plans for the upcoming school year. The event also highlights outstanding educators and leaders who are making a meaningful impact in their schools and communities.

Northern Middle School's Lynsey Hubbard was named a finalist for the Golden LEAF Schools Initiative Educator of the Year recognition, an honor that recognizes educators who demonstrate excellence in supporting innovative teaching and learning practices.

In addition, Principal Dusty Martin was selected as the Golden LEAF Schools Initiative Leader of the Year, a statewide recognition honoring exceptional leadership and dedication to advancing student-centered learning.

These recognitions reflect the ongoing work at Northern Middle School to implement Personalized, Competency-Based Education (PCBE), an approach that focuses on ensuring students master essential skills and knowledge while progressing at an appropriate pace for their learning needs.

"We are incredibly proud of Lynsey Hubbard and Dusty Martin for earning this well-deserved recognition," said Dr. Rodney Peterson, Superintendent of Person County Schools. "Lynsey's dedication to innovative teaching practices and Dusty's exceptional leadership reflect the excellence we strive for across our district. Being recognized among educators and leaders from across North Carolina is a testament to the outstanding work taking place at Northern Middle School and the positive impact they have on students, staff, and families every day."

The Golden LEAF Schools Initiative is supported by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in partnership with the Golden LEAF Foundation and Marzano Resources. The initiative works with schools across the state to advance Personalized, Competency-Based Education and create learning environments that prepare students for future success.

Person County Schools congratulates Lynsey Hubbard and Dusty Martin on these well-deserved honors and thanks them for their continued leadership on behalf of Northern Middle School and the students they serve.
