Victoria Ashley of North Elementary School named 2021-2022 Person County Schools Beginning Teacher of Excellence

Mrs. Sydnor-Waugh, Ms. Ashley, Dr. Peterson

Victoria Ashley, a 3rd grade teacher at North Elementary School, was named Person County Schools’ Beginning Teacher of Excellence on Wednesday, September 29, 2021.

Ashley follows Renise Ford-Pulliam, science teacher at Southern Middle School, in receiving this honor.  Victoria Ashley has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education from North Carolina State University.

Victoria shared, “I am blown away to be chosen as the Beginning Teacher of Excellence for Person County Schools.  Since I started teaching, it has been a goal of mine to be Teacher of the Year, even though I was just shooting for it to be at my own school.  It is an honor to be given this recognition as a beginning teacher.  Last year was a hard year for everyone and I don’t think that I would have experienced such success without the support of my friends, family, and coworkers.”

Mrs. Nell Sydnor-Waugh, Principal of North Elementary School, stated, “Victoria provides a safe and nurturing environment for her students.  She has high expectations and a strong work ethic and is always willing to implement new strategies to improve teaching and learning in her classroom.  Her resilience, intellect, dedication, and integrity as an educator are just a few of the qualities that make her an excellent beginning teacher. We are proud to have her as a North Elementary Eagle!”

Mrs. Ashley will go on to compete with the other Beginning Teachers of the Year at the state level.

School-level winners were nominated by their administrators for demonstrating outstanding performance as a first-year teacher.  Also nominated were:  Christian Miles at South Elementary School, Kayla Walker at Southern Middle School, and Carleigh Loftis at Helena Elementary School.
