At a principal’s breakfast on October 21, Joseph Warren, principal of Woodland Elementary School, was named the Principal of the Year for Person County Schools. Mr. Warren holds a Bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University and a Master’s in School Administration from Western Carolina University.  He has worked in Person County Schools since 2008. He began his career in Person County as a fifth grade teacher at Helena Elementary School. Mr. Warren also served as an assistant principal at Helena Elementary for a little over one year. In December of 2019, Mr. Warren will celebrate five years as principal of Woodland Elementary School.

Mr. Warren shared, “It is such an honor to be chosen as the PCS Principal of the Year amongst a group of the most dedicated and talented school leaders our district could hope for.  Every principal in our district is worthy of this honor. I am truly blessed to lead Woodland Elementary School. I hope this award serves to recognize the absolute best teachers and staff, the most wonderful children, and the incredibly supportive families and partners of the community of Woodland Elementary School.”

Amy Seate, Chief Academic Officer, states, “As I have worked alongside Mr. Warren over the last several years, I have noticed more than anything, his drive to improve every single day.  Mr. Warren never fails to reflect on his and his teachers’ practices each and every time he receives school data. Even when his data shows success, he digs deep to find small areas for improvement and seeks to find solutions to reach his goals!  This strong drive and compassion to make the instruction at Woodland better every day, spills over into the work ethic of his faculty, staff, and students. I have watched the instruction at Woodland grow and thrive under Mr. Warren’s leadership! I am thankful for his gentle, but bold, leadership and look forward to his continued success at Woodland as he sets sail to new instructional lands with very high mountains! Keep those students climbing, Mr. Warren!

Dr. Rodney Peterson, Superintendent, states, “Person County Schools is proud to name Joseph Warren as the Principal of the Year. His commitment is evident in observing his daily interactions with the entire Woodland community.  Mr. Warren has challenged his staff to be committed to personalized learning for each student. This dedication has led to continued student growth and higher achievement scores. The staff, students, parents, and community members of both Woodland Elementary School and Person County Schools are blessed to have Mr. Warren as a leader and advocate for students.”
