Holmes Named Person County Schools Principal of the Year

At the principal meeting on October 11, Patrick Holmes, principal of South Elementary School, was named the Principal of the Year for Person County Schools. Mr. Holmes holds a Bachelor’s degree from Hartwick College and a Master’s in School Administration from North Carolina State University.  He has worked in Person County Schools for 15 years. He began his career in Person County as a social studies teacher at Northern Middle School. Mr. Holmes also taught at Person High School, before taking on an Assistant Principal role at Helena Elementary School. In 2013, he took on his current role as principal of South Elementary School and has been committed to his role ever since.

Mr. Holmes shared, “I am so appreciative for being recognized as the Person County Schools Principal of the Year. I believe this recognition belongs to all who have committed themselves to our students and our community. I am blessed to work with an amazing staff, have the service of generous volunteers, the support of our district office and school board and the commitment of a strong community. With all of these resources focused on our amazing students, we will continue their academic growth and build bright futures for our Shooting Stars.”

Amy Seate, Chief Academic Officer, states, “As I have worked alongside Patrick Holmes over the past four years as either an administrative partner and/or as the Chief Academic Officer, I have learned a lot about Mr. Holmes as an administrator.  His main focus has always been, and I believe will continue to always be, on the children in his building. I have never witnessed him put anything or anyone above the needs of the children at South Elementary School. Even as I walk down the hallway or into a classroom with Mr. Holmes, his complete focus is on the children in his care.  Every question Mr. Holmes asks always stems from student need. He is passionate about student growth, development, and their well-being more than he is passionate about anything else. He is a strong, faithful advocate for the South Elementary community and stands up for what is best for the children in this community. His determination to do what is needed and what is right breaks down walls and pushes through barriers that would stop most leaders, it doesn’t stop Mr. Holmes.  I am honored to work alongside such a passionate and compassionate servant leader, and I look forward to witnessing the future successes of his students as he continues to be the wind beneath their wings!”

Dr. Rodney Peterson, Superintendent, states, “Person County Schools is proud to name Patrick Holmes as the Principal of the Year. His commitment to his students and staff is outstanding. Mr. Holmes is one of two principals to take on the new Dual Language Program in his school. He took this challenge and ran with it. South Elementary has truly become a globally minded school under his leadership. The community of South Elementary School and Person County Schools are blessed to have Mr. Holmes as a leader and advocate.”
