Dr. Rodney Peterson, Superintendent of Person County Schools, petersonr@person.k12.nc.us
Welcome to the Person County Schools webpage. The intent of the site is to provide you with the latest information about Person County Schools and the resources you need as parents, students, and staff members.
It was an honor to be named Person County Schools Superintendent on May 3, 2017. Since that time, our staff has been gaining feedback from stakeholders on the strengths and areas of improvement for our district. An outline of the transition process is provided on the left side of this page. Please check back periodically to the Transition page as it will be updated frequently as the we finalize the PCS2022 vision through the strategic planning process.
I have enjoyed each phase of my 20 years in North Carolina public education. I am humbled to have served in various district leadership positions over my tenure, including Area Superintendent, Chief Academic Officer, and Executive Director of Support Services. My most rewarding experiences in education came when I was a principal and teacher. These roles developed my leadership style as a servant leader who makes student centered decisions. Teaching was my first passion and a place where I developed long lasting professional relationships. As such, I will always be grateful for my tenure as a classroom teacher in Benson, North Carolina. Before being named Superintendent, I continued my love for teaching as an adjunct professor at Campbell University and North Carolina State University.
My wife, Tonya, and I have four children, ranging in ages from 12 to 4 years of age. Our children are active in sports, dance, gymnastics, and horseback riding. We look forward to our tenure with the Person County School family.
