Greetings from Woodland Elementary School- the home of the Lakers!
Woodland Elementary is a small, family-oriented school with a tradition of strong academics and strong character development in our students. Serving just under 200 students in grades K-5, we believe we have a unique ability to know and understand the needs of our students extremely well. At Woodland, we strive to maximize the potiential of every student through adherence to our Core Values: Safety, a positive Attitude, Integrity, and Leadership. (As Lakers, we SAIL!)
This school year (2018-2019) is an exciting year for Woodland Elementary. Our school has begun incorporating a more Globalized approach in teaching and learning. All of our teachers are participating in a professional development series throughout the year that will help them to incorporate global concepts into the North Carolina Standard Course of Study as they plan their lessons. Our goal is to make the learning experiences here at Woodland even more engaging, relevant, challenging, and fun for our students as we help prepare them for life in our ever-changing world.
This year we have also begun a Dual Language Immersion program in Kindergarten and First grade. Students in our two Dual Language classes are learning the same content and concepts as any other student in North Carolina, but their instruction is delivered in Spanish. This past summer, we welcomed several new international staff members to our family that will be leading our Dual Language Program. Ms. Sandra Usieto joins us from Spain as our Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Laura Castillo joins us from Mexico as our First Grade teacher, and Mrs. Adriana Paredes joins us from Ecuador as a Co-Teacher that will work with both dual language classes. We are so excited to be able to provide this unique opportunity for the children of Person County! If you are interested in more information about our Dual Language Program, please check out the Dual Language page on our website, or feel free to contact me directly with questions.
