Welcome to the Person County Learning Academy (PCLA), an alternative program serving Person County School System’s secondary students in grades 6 through 12.
Students from Northern Middle School, Southern Middle School, and Person High School may be assigned to PCLA for one of the following reasons:
- Long-term suspension assignment
- Individual Education Plan team placement decision
The faculty and staff of the Person County Learning Academy, in partnership with the home and the community, strive to provide a safe, supportive, and academically challenging environment characterized by small class sizes and blended learning. For the 2018-2019 school year, individualized, online coursework will be the instructional foundation, but hands-on projects as well as digital learning platforms will supplement the online courses. PCLA’s director, faculty, and staff specialize in promoting 180-degree turnarounds. As a result of our staff’s ability to build strong relationships with students who have experienced failure in other school settings, more than 60 students have graduated from PCS and numerous students have been able to transition back to their base schools successfully.
Thanks to the generosity of both the Lewell T. Huff VFW Post 2058, which donated the property and the Person County School Board, which dedicated considerable funding to the building project, PCLA occupies a state-of-the-art facility.
We welcome community support and we look forward to establishing many community partnerships. Please contact the PCLA director to learn more about ways that you can make a positive impact on our students and help them to fulfill their highest potential.
Expecting a great 2018-2019 school year,
Chris Tomasic, Director
