Collaborative Professional Learning Communities

  • PCS elementary teachers work together to clarify exactly what each student must learn, monitor each student’s learning on a timely basis, provide systematic interventions that ensure students receive additional time and support for learning when they struggle, and extend and enrich learning when students have already mastered the intended outcomes.  Each elementary school maintains a functioning learning community at each grade level once a week.  Grade level teachers meet weekly to review a variety of data to help inform them of what the next steps are for each student.  Teachers work collaboratively to provide high quality instruction for all students.

With i-Ready, schools can sharpen their insight into student needs with actionable data and access rigorous and engaging instruction to help each student succeed.  Each kindergarten through fifth grade student in PCS is given three diagnostic assessments throughout the year to assess learning.  Teachers and the i-Ready system analyze the assessment results to place each student on an individualized instructional pathway in a digital platform. i-Ready provides engaging digital instruction based on individual diagnostic results that meets students where they are and allows them to work independently on their personalized online instruction plans. i-Ready online instruction efficiently targets skill gaps to help students who are behind access grade-level content and provides challenge and enrichment for students who are ready.  i-Ready connects to the North Carolina Ready Math & Reading core curriculums being used for direct teacher to student instruction.  To learn more about i-Ready click HERE.
