March 16, 2020
Good evening parents, this message is to provide information and resources regarding our COVID-19 school closure. Beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, PCS will offer a pick-up meal program for children under the age of 18. These meals will be provided Monday through Friday until further notice. Children do not need to be present in order for meals to be provided however, the child’s name and school must be presented at the time of pick up. This program will be for all students of Person County, Charter and Public Schools alike. Southern Middle School and Person High School will serve as the meal pick up sites. Pick-up times will begin at 10:30 and end at 1:30.
Your schools will be contacting you individually this week to note the procedure for you to acquire a device for supplemental work if you do not have a device at home. Students will be able to use these devices to access links to online/offline resources, sample daily schedules, and choice charts on the website. There are resources for each grade level and core subject.
Parents of students enrolled in the backpack pals program may pick up their child’s food bags on Friday, March 20th from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at their child's school. PECIL and PCLA student bags will be available for pick up at Person High School. Staff will be set up outside for parents to receive a bag through a drive-through. If this time frame will not work for you, contact your child's Backpack Pals representative. If you know of someone willing to donate to this program, please ask them to call the Person County Central Office and we will direct them accordingly.
Person County Schools has established a COVID-19 website (pcsnc.org/COVID-19) on our homepage that has this information along with all supplemental choice charts, the latest information about our Supplemental Meal Service, and other pertinent items as they relate to the COVID-19 school closure. Thank you for your continued support for Person County Schools and thank you for your continued patience and cooperation during this time.
Respectfully Yours,

SuperintendentMARCH 15, 2020
As you are aware, Governor Roy Cooper issued an executive order for all schools in North Carolina to be closed beginning Monday, March 16 through at least Monday, March 30, 2020. Please be mindful that this closure includes all before and after-school programs. Our staff is working diligently to develop a meal service program for our most at-risk students and a remote academic plan if we were to be closed beyond March 30. This week, your school will notify you of a plan for all K-12 students to obtain their computing devices from school. Likewise, our staff will be communicating with you on how students can use these devices to access supplemental instructional material to work on during this closure. If you have a scheduled Individualized Educational Plan meeting for this week, your caseworker will contact you on whether these meetings will occur via phone or will need to be rescheduled. By Tuesday, Person County Schools will have established a designated Coronavirus link to our home page that will direct you on the latest information on the Coronavirus, our plan for supplemental meal service, and access to the supplemental instructional links students can work on during the closure. Thank you for your continued support for Person County Schools and thank you for your continued patience and cooperation during this time.

In response to guidance from the Governor and the Department of Health and Human Services, the following actions, unless otherwise noted, will be taken until April 9, 2020. At that time we will reassess and make you aware of any extensions or cancellations of these actions.
- All field trips are canceled.
- Out of an abundance of caution for our students and mitigate students from exposure to individuals from outside of the school, schools will not allow visitors or volunteers in their buildings until April 9, 2020. If parents need to speak with staff or conferences need to take place, these can be done by phone.

- My Life Matter Clubs in the Elementary Schools and the high and middle school shuttles will not operate until further notice.

If we were to cancel field trips, parents will be reimbursed funds they have paid to date.
- We will continue to provide students frequent opportunities to wash their hands, including immediately before lunch.
